‘The time has come’: Marcelo Bielsa takes over as manager of Uruguay

  • Former Leeds manager signs three-year deal
  • Bielsa replaces Diego Alonso after World Cup failure

Marcelo Bielsa has been named the new coach of Uruguay, the country’s FA announced on Monday, with the former Leeds manager signing a contract until 2026. The Argentinian takes over following the exit of Diego Alonso, after Uruguay failed to reach the World Cup knockout stages.

“The fans are calling for games and emotions. The time has come,” read a message on the team’s official Twitter account, which also confirmed the appointment.
