A veteran police lieutenant in Georgia who was caught on camera during a traffic stop last year saying officers "only kill black people" will be fired, authorities announced Thursday. In dashcam footage from July 2016, first obtained by a WSB-TV Channel 2 in Atlanta, a white woman can be heard telling Cobb County police Lt. Greg Abbott that she was scared to put her hands down because she had "seen way too many videos of cops." Abbott, who is also white, then says, "But you're not black. Remember, we only kill black people. Yeah, we only kill black people, right?" Abbott, a 27-year veteran of the police department, will be removed from the force, Cobb County Police Chief Mike Register said at a news conference Thursday afternoon ."The statements were inexcusable and inappropriate," Register told reporters. "I don't know what's in [Abbott's] heart, but I certainly know what came out of his mouth."

A transgender teenager killed himself in his bedroom after coming out to his "supportive" family and friends. Leo Etherington, born Louise, was found hanged in the room by his horrified dad, Martin Etherington, after he failed to come downstairs for dinner. The court was told that the 15-year-old committed suicide on an afternoon in May when his family believed he was revising for upcoming exams. According to UK Mirror,he left a suicide note and had previously expressed anger at his school for not letting him change his name until he turned 16. Mr Etherington, a lone parent after his wife died of breast cancer in 2013, said he was not initially worried when Leo didn't come down for the meal. The teenager had started using the name Leo after revealing to his father that he felt he had been born in the wrong body.Mr Etherington said that his son had been angry at his school for not letting him change his name. The Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Lola Akande, said women are the cause of the high rate of domestic violence in the nation. She made this known on Thursday. Two police officers have been confirmed in a murder suicide case at the KwaDabeka police station, in Durban’s Outer West, South Africa.  According to police sources, Tuesday afternoon saw an officer from Crime Intelligence shooting  his girlfriend, Nontuthuko Mthembu, who was a policewoman before turning the gun on himself. According to KwaDabela SAPS communications officer, Capt Mazwi Mbatha, the suspect, who was based at the Inanda Cluster, was in one of the offices with Mthembu at the KwaDabeka police station when they heard her screaming for help and asking for forgiveness. “We then heard about four gunshots and rushed into the office but unfortunately they were declared dead on scene,” said Mbatha.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on Thursday warned Nigerians against use of substandard phones, saying this was responsible for some cancer ailments. An official of the commission, Mr Kunle Olorundare, gave the warning at a stakeholders workshop organised by the Ibadan Zonal office of NCC at the popular Fayose GSM Market in Ado Ekiti. Olorundare lamented that fake phones had taken over the country’s phone market, adding that they have had negative implications on the health of users. The NCC official also identified unapproved phones as a major cause of network interruptions. He said the preponderance of substandard phones was causing colossal damage to network services and health of users. Olorundare warned that sellers of unapproved Information and Communication Technology (ICT) products were flouting the commission’s Act.
