Dele Alli is absent – again – for Tottenham. The midfielder played an hour in midweek but has again been omitted from the 18-man squad:

Gareth Bale is thought to be a few weeks away from pulling on a Spurs shirt once more, but he has been speaking candidly about his return. The Welshman says he may not be “the 20-year-old that sprints 90 yards down the touchline every two seconds” anymore but he is still champing at the bit. “I love this club with all my heart,” Bale tells Sky Sports. “My energy level seems to have gone up. I think it was time for a change – I wanted a change for a little while but obviously it hadn’t been able to materialise. This club means so much to me, there have been some amazing memories and I felt like it was a good time to come back. I feel like the club is still going in a great direction and I want to be a part of it again.”
As for escaping La Liga, he insists he has “no regrets” and questions whether fans failed to take to him following a £85m move because of his personality. “In Madrid, it was a bit flat for a while. You can tell when players are not happy. When you’re not happy, it is difficult to play at your highest level. I’m very quiet, I try to keep myself away from the cameras, the media and maybe that is what they didn’t like over there. You go for a big fee, they expect these galácticos to do everything. There are always highs and lows and the lows are when you usually learn the most about yourself and you show your character to come back from.”
