Man arrested in Germany as Manchester City fan fights for his life

• Thirty-year-old suspect arrested after ‘violent clash’
• Victim has brain injuries and is in critical condition

A man has been arrested by German police after a Manchester City supporter was left fighting for his life following the club’s Champions League game against Schalke.

Gelsenkirchen police said a 30-year-old suspect was arrested after “a violent clash” shortly before last Wednesday’s last-16 first leg at the Veltins Arena. He has not been named but police said the suspect was a member of the group of Schalke fans known as the “Hugos”.
