Pastor Paul Adefarasin Speaks On Fire At House On The Rock Building In Abuja

The Senior Pastor of all House on the Rock Churches, Paul Adefarasin, has spoken for the first time, after the fire outbreak in the Abuja branch of the church. The incident happened on Sunday, after the mid-year thanksgiving service and was eventually contained by men from the Fire Service. In a statement made available to DAILY POST, the cleric thanked those who responded to the inferno and called for calm. “A fire incident occurred at about 2 pm on Sunday 25, June 2017 at the facilities used by the Abuja daughter church of the House On The Rock. “We remain profusely grateful to the Sovereign and Almighty God that there were no human fatalities or casualties. “While some parts of the complex were damaged by the fire, the swift co-ordinated response by many including the following: NEMA, the Federal Fire Service (Abuja), NJI, NNPC, Julius Berger, the HOTR staff & members, and several friends & well wishers of the house. “All of whom responded to the incident & contr...

Niger Government declares 3-day mourning for late ex-Governor Kure

A former Governor of Niger State, Abdulkadir Kure, is dead. He died on Sunday at a German hospital where he was receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment. Mr. Kure would have been 70 years old by February 26 this year. A friend of the family, resident in Abuja, confirmed to PREMIUM TIMES that the two term Niger Governor is dead. “It is true, he died in Germany, the family has already began making moves to return his body back to Nigeria for funeral rites,” he said.

Gambia: Buhari hosts West African leaders

Less than two weeks to the day President Yahya Jammeh of Gambia was scheduled to hand over to President-elect Adama Barrrow, West African leaders will meet in Abuja for a meeting to ensure peaceful transition. Mr. Jammeh, who initially conceded defeat, has vowed to remain in office and has ignored calls by West African ECOWAS leaders, the UN, EU and the U.S. to quit. The Gambian leader, who has been in office for 22 years, accused ECOWAS of declaring war on his government by stating that all options including military action was on the table to ensure his ouster.

Adamawa attacks occurred despite my peace initiatives, Governor Jibrilla says

Governor Muhammad Jibrilla of Adamawa State has ordered security agencies to fish out perpetrators of the attack on Saturday in the state that led to the death of three mobile police officers. The governor also said the attack occurred despite peace initiatives by his administration to forestall it. The Adamawa Police Command on Sunday confirmed the killing of the three police officers and the disappearance of two others in an attack by suspected herdsmen in Demsa Local Government Area of the state. The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the policemen were among those drafted to secure Kwayine, Gidan Dadi and Karlahi communities after clashes that followed the killing of 47 cattle in the area. The command’s Public Relations Officer, Othman Abubakar, who confirmed the development to journalists in Yola, said that four rifles belonging to the police officers were also missing. Nigeria installs windshear alert system in 13 airports

The Federal Government has installed the Low Level Windshear Alert System, LLWAS, at the Umar Musa Yar’Adua Airport Katsina and 12 others to ensure safety. While inaugurating the facility at the airport on Sunday, the Minister of State, Aviation, Hadi Sirika, explained that the facility detects dangerous wind shear that drops aircraft in low altitudes. He said that the Katsina airport was the 13th airport in the country to have the safety facility installed. Mr. Sirika said that windshear had previously caused air fatalities in Nigeria, adding that the most recent was the Sosoliso aircraft which crashed in Port Harcourt on December 10, 2005. He gave other instance as the ADC aircraft which crashed while attempting to take-off from Abuja airport on October 29, 2006 with 96 fatalities including the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Maccido.
